Offline quality assurance

The Desktop Reader is a stand-alone unit used in mail sort operations to validate barcodes and database integrity. The unit works with a standard PC, laptop or thin client to decode 4-state bar and 'bar/no bar' barcodes on letters and flats.

The Desktop Reader uses the barcode data on these mail items to check the quality of the printing (bar spacing and pitch), display the coded data and evaluate coding accuracy. The Desktop Reader can connect to a remote database to find the mail item history and check the amount of time the letter has been in the mail system.

“Not-known at this address” mail can be processed in sorting offices to let the sender know the address is no longer valid - reducing the number of returned items saves manual redirections costs and saves waste for the mailer.
