Wessex Technology has provided high quality image processing systems to the postal business since 1989. Its founder, Alan Bell, developed the high resolution, high sensitivity scanning technology that facilitated widespread use of phosphorescent and fluorescent 4-state codes.

The company was one of the first to offer a double-feed detection retrofit for existing sorters. It now has an installed base of more than 3,000 image-scanning systems and image-lift devices with customers in Asia, Europe and North America.

Wessex Technology's engineering team comprises specialists in optics, electronics and software, with a total of more than 50 years' experience in the design and integration of image processing systems for mail sort operations.

Wessex Technology pursues an ethical policy which includes declining to participate in military uses of its technology or for its technology to be used within the tobacco, mining or agricultural industries where in the judgement of Wessex Technology there are adverse environmental consequences.
